The Ahero Irrigation Project in Kisumu County, Kenya, targets some of the most vulnerable communities, aiming to reduce poverty and improve living conditions. The project will enhance drought resilience and climate change adaptation, offering alternative livelihood options to reduce dependence on irregular rainfall and pasture conditions. The initiative is part of a broader effort to improve agricultural sustainability and water access for local communities.

Solar-Powered Pumping System
Installation of a 500 kWp Solar PV system to reduce water abstraction costs and make irrigation more sustainable.
Infrastructure
Upgrades
Rehabilitation of the Ahero Pumping Station and expansion of irrigation capacity to support an additional 1,000 acres in the Kobongo extension block.
Riverbank
Protection
Strengthening the banks of the Nyando River to protect against erosion and improve the overall water conveyance system.
This project will contribute to long-term climate resilience, increase agricultural productivity, and improve living standards in one of Kenya’s most vulnerable regions.
